Juniper Village 25 Year Anniversary At Spearly

Juniper Village celebrated 25 years of excellence and being committed to nurturing the spirit of life in those we serve and to each other earlier this May. Excitement filled the air as friends, family, partners in caring, and community members marked this momentous occasion. Smooth sounds from the saxophone, specialty desserts and cool sunglasses were enjoyed by all. Denver Mayor Michael Hancock officially proclaimed May 13th, 2013 as "Juniper Village The Spearly Center Day."

Lynne Katzmann, founder of Juniper Village, wrote, "At this special moment, I want to thank each of you for your dedication to our mission, for your loyalty to our Juniper family and for helping us create a new vision of aging in America." Lynne, The Spearly Center would like to thank you for 25 years of extraordinary compassion, leadership, and devotion to humanity.

Spring Skiing with Spearly

March is typically the snowiest month in the Colorado Rockies. What better time to enjoy spring skiing? The Spearly Center, working with the Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center's Adaptive Ski Program, hosted two ski trips in March. Seven residents hit the slopes and had an exhilarating time skiing at one of the most popular ski areas in the world. The weather was sunny and beautiful, the mountain air was clean and crisp, and the views were spectacularly breathtaking. Breckenridge, about 60 miles from Denver, is located in the White
River National Forest in Summit County, Colorado. Base elevation is 9,600 feet, while top elevation is almost 13,000 feet.

Creative Expression was showed when we visited the Stock Show

The New Year is always kicked off in Colorado with the annual Stock

Show. People come from all over to showcase their animals and sell their products. No one wants to miss the rodeo! It is always full of excitement and new beginnings. Our residents are able to tell their stories of being a cowboy or experiencing life on the ranch as a child or young adult. One of our residents shared stories about his days as a cowboy...what great adventures he had.

Explore Music-Elvis is in the House

Elvis reigns at Spearly! We showed our creative expressions while
Elvis sang songs like "Blue Suede Shoes" and "Return to Sender". Some of us danced, some of us sang, and some of us just smiled. We had cake as we celebrated the Kings birthday. This was a great way of starting the new year with new beginnings.

Hero of the Month-Farrell Hollingsworth

Hero of the month is presented by one of our residents who asked us not to share her photo. This is what she presented to him on a plaque. Farrell has been a dedicated and loyal Spearly associate for over 2 years! He is conscientious and treats all people with dignity and respect. As an integral team member, Farrell takes initiative to provide assistance in any way needed. He consistently demonstrates a pleasant demeanor and remains calm in all situations. Residents and staff enjoy Farrell and appreciate his sincerity and professionalism. Staff and residents are proud to have him as part of the Spearly Team and Farrell received the "highest of recommendation" to be awarded this honor by a Spearly resident. After the resident read this to Farrell many of us cried during this very special moment.
